THINKING IN DECADES AND CENTURIES, Vol 9, Issue 1, March 2012
This academic essay examines one of the main features of our society; that is, the relative decline in the income of workers in Europe and the USA. It analyses the roots of the rise and fall in that income as identified by some of the great economic philosophers, such as Ludwig von Mises ['Human Action'] and Friedrich Engels ['The Condition of the Working Class in England'], who discussed the problem facing the income of labour in developed countries following globalisation. It puts forward the argument that, with capital stock static and increased labour immigration, the prospects for median labour income in England are bleak.
