SWISS DIFFERENCES, 1 February 2008
An analysis of Switzerland's relations to the EU reveals that the confederal nature of Swiss politics, together with direct democracy, has made for a prudent system of decision making.  It shows that, following this careful pattern, the contributions of the Swiss to the eastern european states are not contributions to a Brussels slush fund but are disbursed in projects selected by Switzerland in co-operation with the recipient states.
